The plates put pressure on the belt, but its not that strong to tear the belt or squash it.

This system is very popular and every automatic scooter uses it, Vespas, Hondas, etc.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=scooter+cvt+&aq=f" target="blank" rel="nofollow">Here are some clips from Youtube</a> that may further explain a CVT

This looks like a good idea. What stops the belt from getting squished between the plates and not move towards the outere rim to change the proportion.?
Is this product available for sale or is the idea available for DIY? Thanks

Good question. I think it has to do with mass - hydraulic lifter will weigh more than solid one. Another reason is accuracy or deflection. Solid methods of valve lift would be more accurate and stiff in working on high revs.

Hydraulic lifters work fine until they are used in an engine that requires high valve spring rates and high RPM. Why is this?

I can't wait to see a few reviews of people driving this new bike (as well as the GT). I was in the market for buying a Goldwing next spring, but this K1600 might be a much better option.
Great product presentation by the way, the best one I found on the web so far. Thanks.
